English as an Additional Language (EAL) support refers to a tailored educational approach for students learning English in addition to their home language. EAL learners are not an homogeneous group; they range from new arrivals with no English, to advanced bilingual learners who face the dual task of acquiring a new language while in the midst of absorbing new curriculum content.
Effective support promotes academic achievement, social integration and the appreciation of the value of multilingualism as an asset.
